And their tagline was ‘Kids love Cuties because Cuties are made for kids.’ And I kind of thought, ‘Made for kids,’ I wonder what’s behind that? I was kind of intrigued by an advertising campaign towards the end of 2011 by a brand called Cuties that makes mandarins. Sarah Rich writes the Design Decoded blog for, where she recently explored the mandarins’ journey from fruit to brand name. They’re technically Mandarin oranges - more commonly known, though, as Cuties. This year’s idea is another candy-free option: it’s a “you’re a cutie!” printable to hand out with adorable little cutie oranges that kids love. Last year I made a Valentine printable for heart shaped crazy straws that my kids loved, as well as another printable for cute superhero bracelets. But I’ve found that my kids get so much candy, they’re often more excited about non-candy gifts because they’re different than all the others. Valentine’s Day is super fun for kids, and I know half that fun comes from the pile of sweets they get to bring home.
